You’re faced with shelf upon shelf of games – how do you pick one?
Games in the café are divided into different sections, largely depending on age:
- toys for babies/toddlers
- family-friendly games for children aged 2 – 8 years (approx)
- family-friendly games for children aged 5 – 12 years (approx)
- the main section of games for adults and children over 10 years (approx)
- a specific two-player game section, for adults and older children
- there are also shelves of small-box games that are great fun – don’t forget to check them out!
Most games also have three stickers on their lid sides. These tell you:
- the difficulty level (a coloured sticker with a letter on it)
- the time needed to play the game (a timer icon with a minute count)
- the suggested player count (eg 2/3/4 or 4-8)
Difficulty ratings are from A (you can pretty much pick this up and start playing) to E (quite a lot of complicated rules). The time count is a rough guide and assumes you’re new to the game. The player count is my suggested number for maximum fun.
If you know the sort of game you’re after, have a look at our tips below for inspiration. Depending on the experience you want, we recommend some great games to get you started. We’ll have some go-to lists in the cafe for you, too.
If you’re still stuck for ideas or are unsure if a game will be suitable for you, please ask – I may not have played every single game on the shelves, but I should be able to point you in the right direction to get you playing in no time.
